HISTORICAL CURIOSITIES

Gnocchi have very ancient origins and are native to northern Italy, particularly the regions of Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto.

They were born as a poor man’s dish and their origin dates back to when potatoes were imported to Italy from America, right at the time of a heavy famine.

This is why, replacing bread, they became the new daily food for the majority of the population. Thus, people began to integrate the potato in the preparation of bread as well as in other dishes.

This is where potato gnocchi came from.
